31st Avenue Corridor Improvements – Located in a moderate-density area near Vanderbilt University and Centennial Park, pedestrian and bicyclist safety was the primary focus of the 31st Avenue corridor study, which included a review of past planning efforts and field observations of infrastructure conditions. Burch assisted the Nashville DOT with developing conceptual designs for the entire corridor depicting lane reductions, additional protected pedestrian crossings, installation of warning signs and signals for pedestrian movements, better defining street parking with curb extensions, completing sidewalk gaps, and identifying alternative bikeway routes near the high-speed corridor.
