Greater Bethel AME Church in Nashville, TN planned to develop a vacant lot owned by the church into a mixed-use development. Recognizing that much of the church’s surface parking is empty during the week, this presented a unique opportunity to maximize development with minimal parking and create a shared parking agreement between the church and the new development. Burch Transportation prepared a detailed shared parking study for the Project. The study include existing parking occupancy counts and weekday and weekend parking demand projections by hour to confirm that more than enough parking will be available to accommodate the mixed-use development, which included office, residential, and restaurant land uses, without impacting church parking needs. The study also identified recommendations for the development to improve pedestrian safety and mobility between the mixed-use development and the church parking lot. Burch Transportation worked with the project team to prepare a shared parking agreement between the property owners and representatives and coordinated with Metro Nashville Codes department to approve the shared parking plan and agreement.
